Everywhere we look there is information on scoliosis treatment. In the conventional medical world, we have 3 different treatments: do nothing (wait & see), rigid bracing, or fusion surgery. The alternatives to these are largely focused on various exercise methods. There is Schroth, FITS, SEAS, DoboMed, and CLEAR. Although all of these options may be appropriate for different patients, they all still have one distinct shortcoming: they only treat the spine.

Within the last 5-8 years, there has been many, many studies published on the causes of scoliosis, which seem to indicate neurological and hormonal factors as the initiating events for scoliosis development. Yet, none of the treatments out there tackle any of these. They all ONLY address the spine curvature, and its association biomechanical problems. The fact is, the scoliosis curvature is merely another symptom of the overall scoliosis whole body disorder.

When people ask me why I am involved with the ScoliSMART Clinics, the answer is simple. Our clinics are taking proactive measures to try to improve these underlying neurological and hormonal factors. Without addressing these, I don’t believe that any scoliosis correction achieved from any type of treatment, conventional or exercise, can last long term if these neurological and hormonal factors are allowed to persist. Therefore, the ScoliSMART Clinics always strive to address the underlying components of scoliosis development, in addition to treating the scoliosis curvature.

The other reason that I am proud to be part of the ScoliSMART Clinics is that, if nothing else, our doctors just flat out care more than anyone I know. They are the most passionate group of physicians, when it comes to scoliosis treatment, that I have ever known. Know that if your child has scoliosis, we understand that it is a scary time. We will do our best to either help you as completely as possible, or refer to to the most appropriate place if we can’t. Our research, experience, and compassion speak for themselves.
